Titchfield’s War Memorial has long stood as a powerful reminder of those from our village who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I and II. But in 2011, we discovered that this Grade II listed monument was in desperate need of repair.

Determined to honor our local heroes, Titchfield Village Trust stepped in to help.

Preserving a Piece of Titchfield’s History

The stone Celtic-style cross, located outside Titchfield Village Hall, had weathered over time, showing visible signs of deterioration. Not wanting to see such an important landmark fall into disrepair, we turned to our local monument expert and stonemason, Ron Knee, who was more than willing to restore it to its former glory.

To support this vital work, we donated £1,000 towards the repair costs. You can find out about other grants we've given here.

A Community Effort for Swift Restoration

Once we alerted Fareham Borough Council to the condition of the memorial, they quickly took action. The repairs were carried out efficiently, ensuring the monument would continue to stand proudly for future generations.

This project is just one example of how we at TVT work to preserve Titchfield’s heritage and ensure that important historical landmarks are properly maintained.

A Lasting Tribute to Those We Lost

Thanks to community collaboration, local expertise, and our commitment to heritage preservation, the War Memorial remains a focal point of remembrance in Titchfield. It stands not only as a tribute to those who served but also as a testament to what we can achieve together when we take pride in our village’s history.

So next time you visit or pass Titchfield Village Hall, take a moment to pause, reflect, and remember—because our history matters, and so do the people who shaped it.
